Teimuraz Beridze is a famous modern Georgian historian. His main profile is the study of the history of Tbilisi in the IV-XIX centuries. His Ph.D. thesis dealt with the history of the suburban villages of Tbilisi, in particular Chugureti, Kukhii, Didkube. The doctoral one, defended in 1990, was also dedicated to the outskirts of old Tbilisi.
He began his career as a researcher at the Tbilisi Historical Museum. He held this post for 22 years - from 1958 to 1980. From 1980 to 1987 he was the director of the same museum. Then he moved to the National Museum of Georgia as a senior researcher and head of the department of archeology of the Middle Ages. He has published many articles and monographs on the history of the largest Georgian city. His works were included in the Tbilisi Encyclopedia, published in 2002. He also collected his works for the youth encyclopedia about the history of Tbilisi by his authorship.
In addition to his scientific activities on history, he also takes part in several films as an actor. The first film with Teimuraz Beridze is a dramatic film parable by Pirosmani, which tells about the artist Niko Pirosmanishvili, who lived in the early 20th century and gained recognition and fame only after his death. In this film, the famous historian played a friend of the artist, and also consulted the authors in the field of recreating the atmosphere of the city of that period of history. The film was released in 1972.
In 1987, the roles of Teimuraz Beridze were replenished with another historical tape - the musical tragicomedy of Aen the Furious, where he played a cameo character. This film also transports the viewer to Georgia at the beginning of the 20th century.
In 2008, as an outstanding figure in science, culture, art, he was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Tbilisi.
