Born July 19, 1961, Okayama, Japan - Japanese film director.
Nakata's first work was The Curse, Death and Spirit (1996). Despite the failure of the first works, he became responsible for the direction of the film "The Ring".
The Ring has become an iconic and one of the most successful Japanese films worldwide. Then the sequels "Call 2" (1999) and "Dark Waters" (2002) were filmed. “The Call” was re-filmed in the USA in 2002 under the same name, similarly “Dark Waters” was re-filmed in 2005 - in Russia the remake was released as “Dark Water”. Also, Call 2 was filmed in the USA.
Nakata's other films include The Sleeping Bride (2000) and Chaos (2000). He has now completed a Japanese ghost story. He is also working on the film "Hearn", which tells about the life of Lafcadio Hearn, who wrote "Kaidan: History and Essays on Wonderful Phenomena." Nakata worked on the film True Believers, but then left the project. He later received an offer from DreamWorks to work on Ring 2 (2005), to which he agreed. Thus, this film became his debut in English. Hideo Nakata represents the United Talent Agency.
