Nikolay Chukovsky - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, clips.
Was born on May 20 (June 2), 1904 in Odessa. He spent his childhood and youth in St. Petersburg and Kuokkala. In 1921 he graduated from the Tenishevsky School, studied (until 1924) at the social pedagogical (historical and philological) faculty of Petrograd University. He graduated from the Higher State Courses of Art History at the Leningrad Institute of Art History (1926-1930). In 1919-1921 he took part in the work of a poetry seminar (headed by N. Gumilev), organized in a literary studio at the House of Arts, in 1921 he became close to the Serapion Brothers literary group. He began performing poetry in 1922 in the almanac Ushkuiniki (Petrograd), published by Chukovsky at his own expense (under the pseudo N. Radishchev), in the literary supplement to the Berlin newspaper Nakanune (June 4) and the Petrograd magazine Sovremennoe Obozreniye (No. 2). In 1923, the Berlin magazine "Beseda" (No. 1) published Chukovsky's poem The Goat, which was met with approval by M. Gorky and V. Khodasevich, Chukovsky's literary "guardian". Chukovsky's youthful poems were also published in the journals "Russian Contemporary", "Leningrad", "Red Raven" (all in 1924), in the collective collections Collected Poems (1926), Koster (1927).
