Born June 12, 1949 in Tunisia in an eminent family. His father held several ministerial posts, and his own uncle, Habib Bourguiba, was the first president of the Republic of Tunisia. Tarak Ben Ammar is a graduate of Georgetown University. He put Tunisia on the world map of the film industry with the creation of Carthago. He managed to convince many American producers to make their films in Tunisia, including blockbusters like Star Wars by George Lucas and Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark by Steven Spielberg. Learning the basics of filmmaking from renowned teachers, Ben Ammar produced and participated in the production of more than 50 films from 1980 to 1990, starting with commercial French comedies ("Shut Up When You Say", "Quarter to Two BC", etc. .) and ending with the famous films by Franco Zefirelli "La Traviata" and "Pirates" directed by Roman Polanski.
After that, Tarak Ben Ammar made the decision to devote most of his time to investment and strategic consulting. In 1990, he founded with Silvio Berlusconi, whom he met in 1983, a company called Quinta Communications. Quinta Communications worked as an investor, as well as a production and distribution company.
Quinta co-produced (with Lux Vide) television series Jesus of Nazareth and The Bible, and produced Brian De Palma's 2002 film Femme Fatal .
In 1996 and 1997, Quinta organized and produced Michael Jackson's international tour "History" and his multi-platinum album 'Blood on the Dance Floor'.
Ben Ammar has also distributed Mel Gibson's The Passion of the Christ to fifteen major countries around the world. The Quinta Group has also produced high-budget projects such as The Last Legion, Territory of the Virgins and Hannibal: The Ascent (all in collaboration with Dino Di Laurentis' company) .
In 1984, Ben Ammar was awarded the Legion of Honor for his cultural achievements, which he received from the hands of French President Francois Mitterrand. Ben Ammar has four children and lives in Paris. For more than 35 years, Tarak Ben Ammar has built a media empire that stretches across the world, including France, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States. He became the first person from the Arab world to establish and manage a European vertically oriented media corporation. In 2010, Ben Ammar co-produced the Oscar-nominated feature films Outlaw by Rashid Bushareb and Miral, directed by Julian Schnabel.
Ben Ammar also co-produced And Where Are We Now? Directed by Lebanese director Nadine Labaki and selected for the official competition of the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.
Ben Ammar also produces and finances a feature-length film about the legendary Mohammed Bouazizi, whose act of self-immolation eventually led to the revolution in Tunisia.
