He studied at the philological faculty of the Leningrad Pedagogical Institute named after A. Herzen, at the acting school at the Lenfilm film studio.
In 1951 he graduated from the directing department of VGIK.
In 1950-1957 - director of the Sverdlovsk film / s. Since 1960 - production director of the Lenfilm film studio, the Mosfilm film studio .
People's Artist of the RSFSR (1977) .
He died on January 23, 2005 in Moscow. He was buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery (site No. 5).
