Donnie Yong was born in July 1963 in Canton, where he lived with his parents for the first two years of his life, after which they moved to Hong Kong. His mother was engaged in martial arts and archery, and his father is the editor of a local newspaper. Soon, Yen's family leaves Hong Kong to meet the "American Dream."
Having settled in Boston, Yen's mother opens her own wushu school, the popularity of which, over time, will spread throughout the United States. The future actor also begins to take an interest in martial arts influenced by films with Bruce Lee and Jackie Chan.

In the capital of China, Donnie Yong enters the national wushu team, but after a couple of years decides to return to the United States. On the way home, he ends up in Hong Kong and, by pure chance, gets on screen tests for participation in the film Drunken Taichi. The picture, as it turns out, is being shot by an old acquaintance of the mother, and the film itself is about martial arts. It is not surprising that Yeon gets the main role, and the picture itself becomes successful at the box office. After a rather successful debut, all new films with Donnie Yen appear on the screens: Tiger Cage, Strange Couples, The Hunt for the Crystal.
But the film with Donnie Yen and Jet Li in the lead roles is becoming really popular - Once Upon a Time in China 2. Consolidate the success of filming in the series The Consummate Kung Fu Master and Fist of Fury: Oath of Vengeance.
