De Luca was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. At the age of 17 he entered New York University. In 1984, he started working as an intern at New Line Cinema, and soon rose through the ranks, thanks in large part to his mentor Robert Shay. In 1988, De Luca made his associate producer debut in Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3. Also in 1988, he co-authored an episode of Freddy's Nightmares. In 1991, he produced and wrote the script for the feature film Freddie is Dead. The last nightmare. " In 1995 he produced and wrote the script for In the Jaws of Madness, directed by American director John Carpenter. The script for the film is based on the works of Howard Phillips Lovecraft and Stephen King. After leaving New Line Cinema, De Luca becomes Production Director at Dreamworks Film Company (2001-2004).
