Soviet film director, screenwriter.
Born on March 10, 1918 in the city of Balta (Moldova). In 1936-1939 he studied at the Moscow Institute of Chemical Engineering. In 1943 he graduated from the directing department of VGIK (workshop of Grigory Kozintsev). At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, he participated in the Moscow people's militia. In 1944 he was an assistant director of the Sverdlovsk film theater. Since 1945 - director of the Lenfilm film studio .
He died on April 17, 1989 in Leningrad. The urn with the ashes is installed in the columbarium of the St. Petersburg crematorium.
