Soviet film director, screenwriter.
Graduated from the directing department of VGIK (1953, workshop of Lev Kuleshov). In 1941-1947 he served in the Soviet Army, a participant in the Great Patriotic War. He worked at the Moscow Film Studio of Popular Science Films. Author of a number of n / a films, plots and essays.
Together with Theodor Wolfovich, he skillfully and energetically shot his first film "The Last Inch" in 1958. The picture was created based on the short story by James Aldridge. Films by Wolfovich and Kurikhin became a precious document that captured the aesthetic preferences of youth during the "thaw" period. " Nikita Kurikhin, during his short life, put only a few pictures, but what kind of tapes they were ... The film "Skylark" is a true masterpiece, which was presented at the Cannes Film Festival.
He died tragically in a car accident while on holiday in the Baltics. In early July 1968, Kurikhin and his wife decided to go on vacation. They decided to go south, and not by train or plane, but on wheels - on their "humpback". But their vacation only lasted a day. They left Leningrad on July 5 and got into an accident the next morning. Kurikhin was driving, who apparently fell asleep and lost control of the car for a few seconds. These seconds were enough for the Zaporozhets to jump out to the side of the road and crash into a tree at high speed. Both spouses were killed.
