After studying at the parish school of his native city, Vladimir became a student at the Voronezh city school. Later, Gribkov entered the Voronezh Teachers' Seminary, and from the age of sixteen he studied at the Voronezh Pedagogical Institute.
In 1920, Vladimir got a job as an assistant clerk and police census officer in his city. A year later, Gribkov became a student at the Higher Theater Workshop.
