Graduated from the directing department of VGIK (1943, workshop of Sergei Eisenstein).
Since 1944 - director of the Lenfilm film studio, worked in the groups of Julius Raizman and Friedrich Ermler. Supervised the III Creative Association "Lenfilm" .
In 1954 he directed the adventure film "Dagger" (based on the story by AN Rybakov), which still finds its audience thanks to the sharpness of the plot and the play of young performers. Even greater success, largely due to previous achievements, was expected for the next film directed by the director, "Two Captains" (based on the novel by VA Kaverin). The most significant work of Vengerov was the film "Empty Flight", based on the book by S.P. Antonov, in which the director, unlike his previous films, brought to the fore a moral conflict.
