John Ivanovich Markovsky, a famous Soviet ballet dancer, was born on February 23, 1942 in Yakutsk, in northern Russia. From early childhood, John Markovsky had a love for art, and this was especially expressed in an attachment to dancing. His childhood had a very difficult time, but his parents were able to send their son to the chosen Riga Choreographic School, where V. Tsukanov himself became his teacher. Upon graduation, John was admitted to the Riga Opera and Ballet Theater, where he began to gain experience and discovered new perspectives, dancing leading roles, won the recognition of local amateurs. Soon, he decided to enter the Leningrad Choreographic School, in an improvement class in order to improve his skills and establish himself as a professional ballet dancer. Thereafter, he was admitted to the Kirov Theater as a soloist. Thanks to his unusual physique for a ballet dancer, he became a memorable partner. He became part of the legendary duet together with A. Osipenko.
