Paul Schroeder - biography, date of birth, place of birth, filmography, music videos.
American film director, screenwriter, film theorist.
Born on July 22, 1946. Schroeder was brought up in a religious family, until the age of 18 he was not allowed to attend the cinema. Graduated from Calvinist Seminary. In 1969 he began working as a film critic for LA Weekly Press and Cinema magazines. Wrote the book Transcendental Style: Ozu, Bresson and Dreyer (1972) .
Schroeder scripts for Sidney Pollack's Yakuza; "Taxi Driver", "Raging Bull" and "The Last Temptation of Christ" by Martin Scorsese; "Obsession" by Brian De Palma.
The first directorial job took place in 1978 with a film about the trade union movement "Blue Collar". In 1982 he directed a remake of Jacques Turner's horror film "Cat People" with a significantly redesigned plot. His 1985 film Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters, about a replacement Japanese writer, entered the main competition at the Cannes Film Festival.
