1899 - August 5, 1963
Pavel Weisbrom was born in Rostov-on-Don; studied at the Rostov gymnasium. N.P.Stepanova. During his studies, he created a student circle "Green Ring", where literary issues were discussed. The pseudonym is Pavel Kuklimati. He began his creative activity in 1917: he created the theater "Theatrical workshop" in Rostov. Before the whites left Rostov-on-Don in 1919, Weisbram with his parents, very wealthy people, left Russia, leaving for Paris. In 1921, in Paris, he took part in the evenings of the Chamber of Poets as a speaker (Voice instrumentation of verse) and director of the Traveling Theater on Tables (staging of the theater-buffet Theater of Horror). In 1922, at a meeting of the "Gatarapak" group, he presented a report "Two Arts (The War of Readers and Poets)". In 1925 he returned to his homeland, but already to Leningrad. The family stayed in Paris.
"Pavel Karlovich was kept in prison, first in Leningrad, then in Moscow. They interrogated him, found out why he returned, and finally released him. It seemed that he could do what he loved again. But no - the middle link, all these workers of culture departments, district committees, city committees and regional committees, just in case they were vigilant, and Pavel Karlovich invariably dropped out of all the lists for conferring titles, awards, his performances were closed or harassed in the press. He was loved in theaters. He staged interesting, sharp in form, bright performances. He worked a lot. and successfully, but it could not break the situation. He constantly received spanking. In 1925-1928 and 1937-1939 he worked at the Leningrad Bolshoi Drama Theater, in 1928-1931 - at the BDT branch. In 1939-1941 he was a director of the Leningrad Youth Theater; in 1941-1945 - director of the BDT, in 1945 he returned to the Youth Theater, where he worked until 1948.
In 1948-1958 - the director of the Leningrad New Theater (since 1953 - the Lensovet Theater, in 1956-1958 - the chief director); in 1958 he returned to the Leningrad Youth Theater. Worked at the V. F. Komissarzhevskaya Theater.
Wife - People's Artist of the RSFSR Maria Alexandrovna Prizvan-Sokolova (1909-2001).
