Soviet composer.
People's Artist of the RSFSR (1986).
Honored Artist of the Georgian SSR (1967).
Merab was the son of the composer Alexei Alekseevich Partskhaladze (1897-1972), this largely predetermined his fate.
Participant of the Great Patriotic War.
In 1947-1950 he studied at the Tbilisi Conservatory in the composition class of S. V. Barkhudaryan. In 1953 he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in composition class S. S. Bogatyrev, in 1957 - graduate school here. In 1953-1957 he taught at the Moscow Choral School. In 1957-1974 he was the editor-in-chief of the Muzyka (Soviet Composer) publishing house.
Music for children (musical fairy tales, a capella choirs, songs, instrumental pieces) occupies a significant place in Merab Partskhaladze's work. Among other works: the symphonic poem "Nestan" (based on the poem "The Knight in the Panther's Skin" by Sh. Rustaveli, 1954), orchestral suites "Forest Pictures" (1978), "Taiga Paths" (1986), "Farewell to Dersu" (1987 ); concert for piano and orchestra (1953); string quartet (1951), sonata for violin and piano; Panduruli No. 1 and No. 2 (for piano); music for performances of the drama theater, for films.
Died on February 14, 2008.
