Born March 11, 1908 in Leningrad.
In 1924-1927 he studied at the Leningrad Institute of Screen Arts.
In 1927 he made his film debut as director of the short comedy "The Reluctant Actor".
He began his directing career at the "Belgoskino" film studio.
During the war, Vainshtok (who by that time had headed Mosfilm) took part as an author of an entertainer and a director in the creation of the "Combat Film Collection". Then he became one of the leaders of the Central United Film Studio in Alma-Ata, in which the creative workers evacuated from the Mosfilm and Lenfilm studios shot films.
Having started his work in cinema as an assistant projectionist, Weinstock went through the administrative line to the head of the country's largest studio. Administrative activities do not captivate him, and he leaves the cinema.
Since 1941 he has been engaged in literary activity. Has released several collections of essays and wrote a number of scripts under the pseudonym V. Vladimirov.
Honored Worker of Culture of the RSFSR (1969),
Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1978) .
He passed away on October 18, 1978 in Moscow. Buried at the 10th site of the Kuntsevsky cemetery in Moscow.
