July 21, 1889 - July 19, 1968 - Soviet theater and film actor.

He worked as a boy in 1901-1904 in various stores in Moscow.

In 1904-1907 he studied violin at the Moscow Conservatory.

In 1908-1910 and 1911-1915 he was an employee of the Moscow Art Theater (statistician).

In 1910-1911 he served in the Russian Imperial Army, but was dismissed due to illness.

In 1915-1916 Popov was an artist of the Moscow Chamber Theater.

In 1916 he was again drafted into the army and until 1918 was on the Western Front in the administrative department of the 14th Civil Engineering Squad.

After the October Revolution he continued his acting career. In 1918-1924 he was an artist of the 1st Studio of the Moscow Art Theater, in 1924-1936 - the Moscow Art Theater of the 2nd, in 1936-1968 - an artist of the Moscow Art Theater of the USSR named after M. Gorky. In addition to acting, he was engaged in teaching activities - he taught at the V. I. Nemirovich-Danchenko School-Studio at the M. Gorky Moscow Art Theater of the USSR. He also acted in films.
