August 9, 1919, Kiev, Ukrainian Socialist Soviet Republic - August 6, 2014, Chicago, USA - Soviet and Ukrainian children's writer, playwright. In 1937 he entered the Pedagogical Institute. In his youth, he was fond of humor and satire. Having already written and published three books, the author entered the Moscow Literary Institute, from which he graduated in 1959. His teachers were Samuil Yakovlevich Marshak, Lev Abramovich Kassil and Mikhail Arkadyevich Svetlov. Author of over thirty books, a number of librettos for musical comedies, many collections of poetry, fairy tales and plays for children and youth, as well as scripts for animated films, member of the Writers' Union, Honored Artist. Among his students are actor Leonid Kanevsky, journalist Matvey Ganapolsky. Honored Artist of Ukraine (1994).
