Irina Asmus was born in Leningrad in 1941. Her parents were professional circus performers. After graduating from school, the girl tried to enter the choreographic school at the Bolshoi Theater. Once Asmus was injured in training, as a result of which she could not continue further performances and left the circus. Soon, the artist was enrolled in the drama studio of the Leningrad Youth Theater.
