August 30, 1950, Baku - September 24, 2009, Yerevan - Soviet and Armenian director, screenwriter and artist of animated films. From 1964 he lived in Yerevan. From 1970 he worked at the "Armenfilm" studio as an animator, and from 1972 - as an animator. He is the author of scripts and production designer for almost all of his films, of which there are about thirty (10- and 30-minute) and clips for ORT channel and Armenian television (about 70), as well as a co-author of other animated films shot at the “Armenfilm” studio. Films have won awards at international and all-Union film festivals in France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Japan, as well as in the capitals of the former USSR - Kiev, Yerevan, Moscow, Tallinn.
In 1987 he received the title of Honored Art Worker. In 2008 he received the title of People's Artist of Armenia. He was the artistic director of the association of animated films of the "Armenfilm" film studio. Among the works of Sahakyants, the most famous in Russia are the cartoons of the cycle based on the fairy tales of the classic of Armenian literature Hovhannes Tumanyan ("Who will tell a fable?" And others). In 2002, as a result of Robert Sahakyants' acquaintance with the creative group, later named "Yellow Submaryan", a series of drawn clips "Yellow Submaryan" was born.
