She was born on November 17, 1958 in the town of Lombard (a suburb of Chicago, Illinois) in the family of Italian Americans Maria and Frank Mastrantonio. In 1990, she married Irish director Pat O'Connor. Since 2001, the couple have lived in London (Great Britain) with their sons Jack (born 1993) and Declan (born 1996).
