She was born on October 25, 1922 in Stockholm.
In 1943-49 she played at the Royal Drama Theater.
Having married an American pilot in 1949, she left for the USA. In 1951 they had a son.
In the mid-50s, after the death of her husband, Gunnel Brostrom returned to Sweden. In 1955-58 she worked at the Gothenburg Theater. Then - again at the Royal Drama Theater.
In 1967 she came to Swedish television as a documentary filmmaker.
The actress acted in films, her film debut took place in 1942 and since then she has taken part in thirty films. In 1964 she was awarded the Swedish Thaliapriset Prize.
