Nikolai Batalov was born in 1899. As a child, he loved to play football.
When the future actor was sixteen years old, Batalov entered the School of Dramatic Art. Works as an actor at the Moscow Art Theater, plays roles in the performances of G. Berger, Guillaume, A. Chekhov, I. Turgenev, N. Gogol.
At the age of twenty-four, Nikolai fell ill with tuberculosis, which turned out to be fatal for him. The disease tore the actor away from the theater for six months.
The actor made his film debut in 1924. A film with Nikolai Batalov Aelita (directed by Y. Protazanov) was released. Nikolai played the role of a soldier of the Red Army Gusev. The newspapers of those times wrote that Nikolai's performance of the role of Gusev saved the film. But the best actor role was ahead. Batalov became widely known after playing the role of Vlasov in the film adaptation of M. Gorky's novel Mother (directed by V. Pudovkin).

Batalov is being treated in Poland, Italy, in the Caucasus, but Nikolai could not cure tuberculosis. The actor dies in 1937.
