September 13, 1894, Bradford - August 14, 1984, Stratford-upon-Avon - English novelist, essayist, playwright and theater director.

After completing his studies he worked as a clerk, during the First World War he served in the army.

After the war, he entered the University of Cambridge, where he studied English literature. He was engaged in literary criticism, in particular, he published the book "Figures in modern literature" (Figures in modern literature, 1924). This was followed by several more essays and literary and historical works. Priestley's real fame came from the novel The Good Companions (1929) about the adventures of a troupe of wandering artists.

Priestley is one of the UK's most popular playwrights.

Since 1988, the performance "Green Blood" based on Priestley's "Snogll" has been staged at the St. Petersburg Fairy Tale Theater.
