Vsevolod Pudovkin was born on February 16 (28), 1893 in Penza. In 1914 he graduated from the Department of Natural Sciences of the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Moscow State University and went to the front of the First World War, was wounded, taken prisoner, fled, and returned to Soviet Russia. After graduating from Kuleshov's studio and creating as an actor the first image of a Bolshevik in the history of cinema and a number of eccentric and satirical images, Pudovkin becomes a film director.
In 1926, Pudovkin, together with screenwriter N. A. Zarkhi and cameraman A. D. Golovnya, created his masterpiece "Mother" based on the novel of the same name by M. Gorky. The film became the greatest achievement of Soviet cinema. The next film - "The End of St. Petersburg" (1927), - created by Vsevolod Pudovkin, Nathan Zarkhi and A. D. Golovnya also belongs to the best achievements of cinema. The third masterpiece of Pudovkin is considered the painting "The Descendant of Genghis Khan" (1929) .
Pudovkin was the author of the books "Film Director and Film Material" (1926), "Screenplay. Script theory "(1926)," Actor in the film "(1934). Pudovkin also taught at VGIK, at the directing faculty.
Vsevolod Illarionovich Pudovkin died on June 30, 1953 in the town of Dubulti near Riga (according to other sources in Moscow). Earlier, he fell ill with the flu, accompanied by a high fever. Having not recovered from his illness, he returned to active physical activity - playing tennis. The following night, Pudovkin was diagnosed with myocardial infarction. A day later he felt better, but when he tried to get up, he was struck by a pulmonary infarction and cardiac arrest. He was buried at the Novodevichy cemetery (site No. 2).
