Born on August 20, 1910 in Moscow.
Graduated from the Moscow Institute of Mechanical Engineering in 1938. He worked as an engineer.
In 1942-1944 he was an artist at the Soyuzmultfilm studio.
In 1950 he graduated from the directing department of VGIK (workshop of S.A. Gerasimov).
Since 1951 - director of the Gorky Film Studio.
Author of the play and director of the play "Three Soldiers" (1951, together with Yuri Egorov), director of the play "Family Happiness" based on the play by K.M. Simonov (1952, Satire Theater) .
In 1958-1962 - taught at the department of directing at VGIK.
He passed away on January 18, 1990. Buried in Moscow at Vagankovsky
