Born on May 6, 1918 in the village of Monastyrskoye, Balandinsky District, Saratov Region, into a large peasant family of "low-powered middle peasant".
He graduated from a rural seven-year school, studied at the Atkar Pedagogical School, from where he was drafted into the army.
Since July 1941, he fought on the South-Western and Stalingrad fronts, on the Kursk Bulge. In 1942 he published the first essay Our Heroes in the newspaper "Soviet Bogatyr".
In 1944-1945 he served abroad, as part of the Group of Soviet Forces.
Since 1951 - a member of the Writers' Union of the USSR. In 1957 he graduated from the Higher Literary Courses under him. Worked as editor of Voenizdat.
1968-1989 - Chief Editor of the Moscow magazine.
In 1978, Alekseev was awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor.
