His father was an accountant, his mother kept a household. Vasily was still in high school when the First World War began. Father was drafted into the army, his son wanted to run there, but unsuccessfully. Only during the Civil War did Zhuravlev ensure that his father took him into his unit. Over the years, he was a liaison, chauffeur, security officer, and received training for life.
