Born on May 28, 1952 in the town of Kohtla-Jarve, Estonian SSR.
In 1973 he graduated from LGITMiK (workshop of V.V. Merkuriev and I.V. Meyerhold). While still a student, he played in performances of the Alexandrinsky Theater (then the Pushkin Theater). After graduating from a theatrical university, he was accepted into the troupe of the Alexandrinsky Theater.
After three years of work in the theater, the first success came to the actor.
As a soldier Ivan Varezhkin, he was the host of the popular children's program "Tale after Tale" of the Leningrad Television.
The actor collaborates with the Drama Theater "Shelter Comedianta" .
The son of Sergei Ivanovich is actor Ivan Parshin.
