Few people know that the poetess Agnia might not have existed if not for Anatoly Lunacharsky, the Soviet People's Commissar of Education, who advised the young ballerina, upon hearing her author's composition, to pay attention to her writing talent.

Agnia Barto comes from an intelligent Jewish family. Father is a prominent metropolitan veterinarian Leib Volov, mother is a sister of the famous otolaryngologist and phthisiatrician Grigory Blokh.
