The legend of Polish cinema was born just a couple of months before the start of World War II. As you might guess, childhood years passed under the impression of the war and post-war times. At first, Krzysztof Zanussi decided to devote himself to the exact sciences, having entered and graduated from the physics department of the University of his native Warsaw. After that, he still studied philosophy at the University of Krakow, but the hobby of his young years took its toll. He began making amateur films as a student and received small awards for them. Reasonably deciding that a physicist and a philosopher would turn out to be so-so, Zanussi again went to study - this time as a director at the Lodz Film School, from which he successfully graduated in 1966 with his diploma work Death of a Provincial. And immediately received awards for him at various film festivals.
His first full-length film, titled Crystal Structure, became an event at the Moscow Film Festival. Later, this work will receive more than one international award and will bring worldwide fame to the young director. He also went out to the Soviet film distribution, however, under the name Reflection, and this happened in 1969.
In the 70s and 80s of last year, Zanussi became the most prolific director in Poland, filming films one by one, sometimes even two films a year, including documentaries and television. There were dozens of international awards. Krzysztof became the vice-chairman of the Polish Film Union and the artistic director of one of the creative associations.
