Soviet composer. In 1936 he graduated from the Moscow Conservatory. He began his creative activity in 1935. First appeared in the cinema in 1942 (animated film "Fox, Hare and Rooster"). From 1939 he taught composition at the music school at the Moscow Conservatory. He is the author of music for two operas, three ballets, two operettas, symphonic and instrumental music, vocal cycles to poems by Pushkin, Lermontov and Shevchenko, romances and songs to verses by V. Lebedev-Kumach, S. Gorodetsky, I. Selvinsky, A. Fatyanov and others; music for performances (about 40) and films. Particularly popular was the song to the verses of Alexei Fatyanov "Silence beyond the Rogozhskaya Zastava"
