Soviet actor and director Arkady Raikin was born on December 17, 1911 in Riga. His parents were Jews: his father was engaged in marriage in the field of scaffolding, and his mother, a hereditary woman from Riga, was a midwife. As a child, he studied at a Jewish school - heder, and then the family moved to Rybinsk for his father's work. At the local school, Arkady became addicted to the theater. He really enjoyed taking part in the school performances of the drama club. The teachers were very pleased with the young talent: Arkady had very bright facial expressions, emphasized by charisma. After a while, the family settled in Petrograd, where, for lack of money and under the influence of his parents, Raikin got a job at a chemical plant.
Parents wanted to see their son in a practical profession, but the young man was attracted by the scene, and Arkady Raikin applied to the Leningrad College of Performing Arts. This is how he began his path as a novice actor - later he took lessons from the most famous masters of his craft. Raikin studied pantomime and the art of stage movement from Mikhail Savoyarov, a popular comedian at the time. After his studies at the technical school ended in 1935, Raikin got into the Leningrad Theater of Working Youth, where he began to achieve success on stage. There he was noticed and invited to the cinema. The first films with Arkady Raikin were released in 1938: these were the dramas The Years of Fire and Doctor Kalyuzhny. Prior to that, Raikin played mainly humorous roles, but he coped with the task flawlessly. But, in fact, Arkady's career as a film actor did not work out, he gave all his strength to the stage.
The artist received universal recognition at the All-Union Contest of Variety Artists, where he achieved the title of laureate. Soon he was hired by the Leningrad Variety and Miniature Theater, and three years later Arkady became its leader.
The last film with the participation of Arkady Raikin was released in 1987, the year of his death.
