Christian Charles Philip Bale was born on January 30, 1974 (Aquarius) in Haverfordwest, Wales, UK. His mother was a dancer, and both grandfathers performed on stage. Bale made his acting debut at the theater, where at the age of 10 he became a partner of the famous comedian Rowan Atkinson.
In 1986, Christian Bale first appeared on television, in the miniseries Anastasia: The Mystery of Anna, and the following year, out of 4,000 applicants, he was selected for the lead role in Steven Spielberg's Empire of the Sun, based on the novel by James Ballard. Although the film received mixed reviews, critics spoke very favorably of the young actor.
Soon after, in 1989, he starred in the Swedish-Soviet-English film Mio, My Mio and in the film adaptation of Treasure Island, co-starring with Charlton Heston, and also appeared with Kenneth Branagh in Henry V.
The film "Swingers" contributed to the growth of popularity among the youth audience. In 1994, the actor appeared in the famous film adaptation of Gillian Armstrong "Little Women" and took part in the dubbing of the cartoon "Pocahontas".
In the film "Secret Agent" Bale's partners were such famous artists as Gerard Depardieu, Bob Hoskins, Patricia Arquette.
In 1997, the young actor had a good opportunity to draw attention to himself - in the film "Metroland" based on the novel by Julian Barnes, he demonstrated his outstanding professional skills.
Bale soon starred as Demetri in the adaptation of W. Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, opposite Kevin Kline, Michelle Pfeiffer and Rupert Everett, and starring Patrick Bateman in the thriller American Psycho. And for filming in "American Psychopath" he was invited by the director and screenwriter right away, then Leonardo DiCaprio was approved for his role, but in the end Bale got it.
