One of the outstanding figures of Ukrainian and Russian cinema, a talented screenwriter and director Kira Georgievna Muratova was born in the fall of 1964 in the city of Soroki, Bessarabia. The family of little Kira often moved - first within Romania, and later moved to Moscow, where Kira Muratova entered the Faculty of Philology at Moscow State University, and a little later graduated from a directing course at VGIK (workshop of Tamara Makarova and Sergey Gerasimov).
After graduating from her studies, the young girl went to conquer the Odessa Film Studio, where she first shot a short film called At the Steep Yar, and later the full-length film Our Honest Bread. Kira Georgievna shot her first pictures together with Alexander Muratov, who later became her husband. The first films with Kira Muratova as an independent director are the melodrama Short meetings and the drama Long farewell. Not finding a common language with the management of the Odessa film studio, Muratova leaves for St. Petersburg and removes subsequent films at Lenfilm, namely: Cognizing the White Light, Change of Fate, Asthenic Syndrome. The two-part film Asthenic Syndrome received such prestigious awards as Silver Bear and Nika, despite the fact that the film was released in limited release in the Union. At the same time, she met Yevgeny Golubenko, who became her second husband, as well as a co-author of the scripts.
Films by Kira Muratova are little understood by the mass audience, however, nevertheless, they were always warmly received by the public, and eminent and popular artists are happy to film under the strict guidance of the eccentric Kira Georgievna. At one time, Vladimir Vysotsky and Oleg Tabakov, Alla Demidova and Zinaida Sharko starred with her. And the main and irreplaceable muse of Muratova is, of course, Renata Litvinova, who starred in most of her films. Since the 2000s, Muratova returned to her native Odessa film studio, where her career began, and shoots her films mainly there. Kira Muratova's filmography in recent years has been replenished with films such as Melody for the Organ and Eternal Return.
