Soviet and Russian actor and theater director Igor Gorbachev was born in Leningrad, in October 1927. He began performing in his student years on the stage of the Leningrad State University named after Zhdanov. Igor entered this educational institution in 1946. The most striking acting success at that time for Gorbachev was the role in the play The Inspector General, where Igor played Khlestakov. Based on the results of the performance, Gorbachev was awarded the prize of the amateur theater competition.
In addition, after the successful production of the Inspector General, people from the cinema drew attention to the student and invited him to star in the film adaptation of the same name. Thus, in 1952, a feature film with Igor Gorbachev was released - The Inspector General, directed by Vladimir Petrov. Having starred in two films, Gorbachev decided to pursue an acting career. At the same time, in parallel with his work, the actor made up for lost time at the theater institute.
Gorbachev worked at the Alexandrinsky Theater almost all his life. Here he shone in such performances as the Noble Nest, Optimistic Tragedy, Thunderstorm, At the Bottom, Tales of the Old Arbat, Marriage, The Seagull and many others. In 1991, Igor took the position of artistic director and began to stage his own performances like Maria Tudor and Field Marshal Kutuzov.
