People's Artist of Russia Alexei Petrenko was born in 1938 in the Chernigov region of the Ukrainian SSR. Alexei's parents were engaged in simple peasant labor. But with their son, fate decreed otherwise.

After graduating from the Kharkov Theater Institute in 1961, Petrenko began performing in Zaporozhye and Donetsk theaters. In 1964, director Igor Vladimirov invited Alexei to the Lensovet Theater, located in Leningrad, and Petrenko agreed.

First, he got a job at the Drama Theater on Malaya Bronnaya, then moved to the Moscow Art Theater and collaborated with the School of Dramatic Art.
