Kosheen is a British musical trio that combines pop-rock, synth-pop, drum-n-bass and trip-hop in their work. The group was formed in Bristol in the late nineties. Permanent line-up: Producers Mark Morrison and Darren Beale, as well as vocalist and lyricist Shan Evans. Resist, the band's 2001 debut album, was a success. The audience was won over by the insane mix of energetic drum and bass rhythms and melodic female vocals. Hits from the first album like Suicide, Catch and Hide U were in demand at club parties and did not disappear from radio stations for a long time.
In 2003, Kosheen released their second album - Kokopelli. As it turned out, the group had radically changed their creative approach. Instead of drum and bass on the new album, the fans of the band heard pop-rock with trip-hop elements, Indian motives, intellectual lyrics and shamanic groove. Most of the old fans did not appreciate the new product, which was difficult to perceive. However, on their tours, Kosheen continued to play songs from their debut album so as not to lose their audience. And thanks to the DJs, the recordings from the new disc were transformed to the taste of the most conservative fans.
After analyzing the listeners' feedback, Kosheen decided to meet them halfway. So, in 2007 another album of the trio was released - Damage, which became the golden mean between the synthetic Resist and the rock Kokopelli. The new tracks were in an electrified space with good rhythm, but retained the warmth and soulfulness of pop-rock. In general, the new style of Kosheen is close to the work of Chemical Brothers, but still demonstrates individuality due to Shan's vocals.
The group's creative experiments, which resulted in Damage, were to the liking of music lovers. In the future, Kosheen continued to move in a given direction. Their labors have resulted in two more successful studio albums: Independence and Solitude.
