Born on January 16, 1874 in Lugansk.
He began his stage activity in 1891. He played in the Ukrainian troupes of Derkach, M.L. Krapivnitsky, M.P. Staritsky (until 1901), in 1901-1914 - in the Russian provincial entreprise.
In 1914-1915 - at the Yavorskaya Theater, in 1915-1917 - at the Nezlobin Theater.
He was an actor in the Moscow regional theaters, then in the Theater of Revolutionary Satire.
In 1923-1938 he was an actor of the Theater. MGSPS.
Since 1938 - an actor at the Central Theater of Transport.
The first Soviet actor to be awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor (1936).
People's Artist of the RSFSR (1946).
Passed away on October 26, 1950.
