Soviet, and later Russian actor Alexander Filippenko was born in Moscow, but spent his school years in the city of Alma-Ata. Here, in Kazakhstan, he gained his first stage performance experience. This happened in the drama club, which Alexander attended in his youth.

After graduating with honors from school in 1961, for pragmatic reasons, Filippenko entered the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. During his studies, Alexander was a member of the student KVN and took an active part in skits. But after receiving his diploma in 1967, the future actor went to work as an engineer. Although Alexander was satisfied with the choice of an educational specialty, he soon completely retrained as an artist.

In 1969 Filippenko got a job at the Taganka Theater. In parallel with work, Alexander decided to continue his studies and graduated from drama school as an actor and director. After receiving additional education, he strengthened his position on the stage and began acting in films. Today, Filippenko's track record includes more than 50 paintings. Interestingly, the actor is best known for the role of villains. Listing the most notable films with Alexander Filippenko, one cannot but recall such works as The Master and Margarita, A Visit to the Minotaur, Arturo Ui's Career, Torpedo Bombers, Our Armored Train, My friend Ivan Lapshin and Born by the Revolution.

In 1975, Filippenko changed his job at the Vakhtangov Academic Theater. Soon, the artist has established himself perfectly in the genre of monodrama and has collected several awards at various festivals of solo performances. Since 1989 Alexander has been the Honored Artist of Russia.

After twenty years at the Academic Theater, Filippenko decided to leave the institution and become a contract artist. In 1996, Alexander became the director of the Mono-Duet-Trio theater, and four years later he was awarded the honorary title of People's Artist of Russia. The last, at the moment, film with Alexander Filippenko is Peter the First: Testament, which was released in 2011.
