An English pop / rock band from Whitton-Gilbert, County Durham, formed in 1978. Its greatest success came in the mid and second half of the 1980s. Eight Prefab Sprout albums were in the top 40 of the UK charts, and the single "The King of Rock 'n' Roll" peaked at number 7 on the UK singles chart. The band's frontman, Paddy McAloun, is considered one of the UK's most talented poet-composers of the period; Prefab Sprout has never been a success in the United States.
