Was born on October 8, 1938 in Baku. Graduated from the Azerbaijan State University and the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (1965, scriptwriting faculty, workshop of IM Manevich). He worked in newspapers, collaborated with "Baku Worker", "Literaturnaya Gazeta", "Komsomolskaya Pravda"; since 1961 - professional writer. From 1967 to 1978 he wrote a number of screenplays for films (including the script for the film "Yungi of the Northern Fleet"). In 1979 he emigrated to the United States, five years later he received American citizenship. In 1983 he "debuted" in Western literature with the novel "Red Square", which was followed by "Submarine U-137", "Red Snow", "Journalist for Brezhnev" and other works. For some time he worked in collaboration with Friedrich Neznansky.
