Since childhood, Bouli was interested in painting, repeatedly visited and participated in exhibitions of paintings, so he also had an interest in cinema. As a teenager, he worked for Belgian television and occasionally appeared in episodic roles in the comedy series "Snuls", after which Bouli began his acting career in Belgium and France.
Buli Lanners got his first serious film role when he played in the movie Toto the Hero, which was released in 1991. Directorial work of Buli Lanners 2011 film "Giants", won two prizes at the 64th Cannes Film Festival and two awards from the Belgian National Film Awards Magritte for Best Film and Best Director.
In 2016 Lanners' tape "The First, Last" was released, which was selected to participate in the Panorama program of the 68th Berlin International Film Festival.
