October 8, 1931, Moscow, USSR (Russia) - September 15, 1993, Moscow, Russia - Russian Soviet writer, screenwriter, publicist, journalist and poet.

In 1948 he entered the Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies. During his studies, he was friends with Yevgeny Primakov. In 1953 he graduated from the Middle East Department of the Moscow Institute of Oriental Studies.

Then he taught Pashto at Moscow State University and at the same time studied there at the Faculty of History.

Since 1955 he began to try himself in journalism: he was published in Ogonyok, Pravda, Literaturnaya Gazeta, Komsomolskaya Pravda, Smena.

In 1962-1967 he was a member of the editorial board of the Moscow magazine.

In 1960-1970 he worked abroad as a correspondent for the above-mentioned editions (France, Spain, Germany, Cuba, Japan, USA, Latin America).

During his journalistic activities, he was in the taiga with tiger hunters, at the polar station, at the construction of the BAM, at the opening of the diamond pipe, in Afghanistan, Spain, Chile, Cuba, Paraguay.

Semyonov professionally worked with archives.

In 1989 founded the first private Soviet publication, the Top Secret bulletin. To work on the concept and pilot issue, I hired the host of the Vzglyad program Yevgeny Dodolev and APN journalist Alexander Pleshkov.

Founded the DEM publishing house and the Detective and Politics (DIP) magazine.

Semyonov was one of the pioneers of the investigative journalism genre in Soviet periodicals. In 1974, in Madrid, he interviewed the Nazi criminal and Hitler's favorite Otto Skorzeny, who had previously categorically refused to meet with journalists, and while working as a correspondent for Literaturnaya Gazeta in Germany, he interviewed former Reich Minister Albert Speer and one of the leaders of the SS Karl Wolf ... Conversations with them, as well as the history of the search for the Amber Room and other cultural values ??moved from the USSR abroad during World War II, were published by Semyonov in 1983 in the documentary story "Face to Face".

Yulian Semyonov was the secretary of the board of the USSR Writers' Union, vice-president of the USSR-Argentina Friendship Society, and also a member of the Soviet Committee of Solidarity with Latin American Countries.

In 1960 Yulian Semenov became a member of the USSR Writers' Union.

In 1986 he became president of the International Association of Detective and Political Novel (IDPR) and editor-in-chief of the collection "Detective and Politics", published by this association together with the "Novosti" Press Agency, which did a lot to popularize the detective genre in the USSR.

Yulian Semenov Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1982).

After a sudden stroke in 1990, Semyonov was bedridden and could not return to work.

Throughout his creative life, Semyonov wrote scripts for films, mainly based on his works. The complete filmography of the writer has more than 20 screened works. Semyonov also directed films.
