Born on March 29, 1942 in the Yaroslavl region, in the village of Lyubim.
He entered the theater studio at the Saratov Drama Theater, where from the age of 17 he began to appear on the professional stage. And then Romanov went to Moscow and entered the Moscow Art Theater studio, on the course of Pilyavskaya and Karev.
In 1959-1961 he studied at the theater studio at the Saratov Drama Theater named after K. Marx, was an actor in this theater.
In 1966 he graduated from the Moscow Art Theater School.
