During his short career, the artist has shone in more than thirty film stories, the best of which are the comedy Easy Life (1964) with the unsurpassed Faina Ranevskaya in the title role, the adventure drama Red Tent (1969) with Sean Connery, Peter Finch and Nikita Mikhalkov, and historical drama Running (1970), marked by the golden branch of the Cannes Film Festival.

He was one of the most popular artists of the twentieth century, but he could not withstand the burden of this very popularity - the actor began to drink, almost stopped acting. The last film with Stanislav Khitrov was released in 1984 - it was Mikhail Schweitzer's mini-series Dead Souls, where the artist got the episodic role of a servant in a tavern. Khitrov died the following year after the premiere of the picture, at the age of 51.
