Born on September 30, 1927 in the city of Cherepovets, Vologda Region.
Before serving in the Soviet Army (1944-1949) he worked as a turner at the Leningrad plant "Vulkan".
After graduating in 1952 from the Leningrad State Theater Institute. A. N. Ostrovsky, became an actor of the Saratov Drama Theater. K. Marx.
Then he moved to the troupe of the theater. Lensovet in Leningrad.
Since 1967 - actor of the Academic Maly Theater in Moscow.
Played the role of Lenin in eighteen films.
People's Artist of the RSFSR (1979).
Laureate of the USSR State Prize.
