Born on July 28, 1923 in the village of Urazovo (currently - an urban-type settlement in the Valuisky district of the Belgorod region, Russia). Father was a red commander (died in 1931), so the family often moved from city to city.
Member of the Great Patriotic War. In the rank of lieutenant of the quartermaster service for exemplary performance of the post of head of the brigade club, he was awarded the medal "For Military Merit" in 1943. The amateur ensemble organized by him gave more than 150 concerts for the fighters. In the rank of senior lieutenant, he was the battery commander of the 424th mortar regiment of the 36th mortar brigade of the 28th artillery breakthrough division of the RGK. On February 23, 1945, at the head of the assault group, he secured the capture of the stronghold of the German defense, was seriously wounded in battle, and was awarded the Order of the Red Star for his feat. He was deputy chief of the operations department of the 28th separate artillery breakthrough division of the SVGK Reserve (military rank: captain).
After the first stroke, Vladimir Basov's left side was paralyzed. To maintain his financial situation, he was given the rate of a consulting director.
