Graduated from the mechanical engineering faculty of the Moscow Institute of Chemical Engineering (1960), the directing faculty of VGIK (1968, B. Altshuller's educational cinema workshop), defended his diploma in 1970. He worked as an engineer in the laboratory of cinema design technology at the Mosfilm film studio. Director of popular science, documentaries and fiction films. Since 1986 - a teacher at VGIK.
