American country rock band. One of the first group of new country rock, achieved convincing commercial success in the 1980s and blazed the trail in the charts of a generation of stylistically related artists. The group was formed in 1969 in Fort Payne (Alabama) with: Jeff Cook (real name Jeffrey Alan Cook; p. 27 August 1949; guitar, violin, vocals), Randy Yeull Owen, p. 13 December 1949; guitar, vocals), Teddy Wayne Gentry (p. 22 January 1952; bass, vocals) and Jackie Owen (p. 1952; drums). The four members of the group were first cousins ??born in Fort Payne and lived in the neighborhood. On weekends, their group, YOUNG COUNTRY, performed at the local Canyonland amusement park, and in the evenings played dancing or accompanying visiting artists. The decision to quit their job and become professionals took shape in 1973. Jackie did not like it and he stayed at home. The three remaining moved to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, where they were joined by new drummer Rich Scott. With the new line-up, YOUNG COUNTRY began to write songs themselves, played regularly in local clubs and recorded from time to time. Then they adopted a new, quite patriotic name, Alabama. After three singles, which they released with their own money, the band signed an agreement with GRT Records. Their first "forty-five" for GRT I Want To Be With You hit the Top 100 Country Charts, however, the following singles could not even repeat this result. where they were joined by new drummer Rich Scott.
